I finally got into blogger.

I have been dealing with three surgeries. I am still recovering from the back surgery. The removal of cataracts has made my life unbelievable. I had no idea how much it was impacting my vision.

During the last ten months my Kindle has been my only contact with the outside world. That means I could continue my research.

I have found several new family members. They are all out on ancestry dot com. Frequently the new site changes have been so great and other times a pain in the neck. It doesn't like my Kindle.

Will try to keep this account up to date.

Have a great day.

Three more people added to my family

Using ancestry dot com yesterday I followed a hint for my first husband's aunts daughter and added her husband and two children.
I need to get involved into starting one of my albums.
The Christmas one is my first choice.
Then one of the ancestor to descendant is my second choice.
Have a blessed day.

I updated one of my ancesters

Today I updated the information on my third great grand aunt.  I found that she had been married and had 11 children.  We share General William Lenoir as our primary ancestor.

I want to get my retirement organized.  I have a goal of updating at least one ancestor or relative in my family tree at ancestry dot com daily.

We will have to see if this is a viable goal.

Have a blessed day

Additional research on Ancestry dot com

Over the weekend I did some additional research on my father.  Using A dot c and Google I was able to find lists and articles about him.  Because of the way that all our family documents disappeared after his death there is little in primary evidence left.  I can only scrounge through the Internet and go through my research from the 1980's and see what I managed to keep.

Since he is only one generation away I know where he went to high school and college and where he worked before and after WII.  These may be avenues to follow as my research progresses.

The same holds true with my mother.  I know her schools and where she worked as an adult.  I tried one where she wrote a column for a local newspaper about our neighborhood.  It is no longer being published.  I don't know if any of the articles are still in existence but I will try to find out. All of her generation that lived in the neighborhood have passed to my knowledge so it will be my memory that fills out her information.

Have a blessed day

Initial attempt to organize my main scrapbook for genealogy

Last night I went to my first scrap mania session at Archivers.
I spread out and tried to organize my Ancestry dot com scrapbook.  First the fight to alter the cover on the book.  The page that a picture and family name goes on was glued to the edges and I had to fight it for about 15 minutes.  Once I got it out I had to trim two sides to get it back into the cover.  I now have the name on and have to choose a picture for the cover.
I had purchased two Ancestry dot com identical pads of paper.  I proceeded to remove all the pages and put the duplicates together.  Then I started sorting the other identical purchases I had made.  This will make it easier to identify what I have and what I need.
Archivers had a page the FAMILY in the lower left hand corner.  It would have worked perfectly for the family group sheets, but with as many families in my genealogy I would need to purchase hundreds of pages.  TOO MUCH $$$.
Will  post more later.
Have a blessed day.

Organizing my genealogy stuff

I have decided that I need to organize and record all the genealogy stuff that I have purchased or researched in the last three months.
For starters I have purchased a *** for organizing my stickers and individual pages that are in plastic covers.  I will be using Excel(R) as my database with a page for each type of scrapbook element and a main page in the database with referrals to the work page and line item in it.
If my day today goes as I have planned I will start with the stickers.  The workbook has already been set up.
Have a blessed day.

I have signed up for two classes

Marco's Paper in Centerville, OH has a class that meets once a month and teaches how to make books.  I have signed up for the November class.  I think that there will be one main Scrapbook for my Genealogy and then several separate scrapbooks for special people in my genealogy.

Archiver's in Mason, OH has a scrap mania class on October 25 and it is specialized this month for how to handle old photos, negatives, etc. when scrapbooking. I am really looking forward to it.

I tried to practice my Calligraphy when I was on the retreat.  It is coming back very slowly.

Have a blessed day.
