I found my greatuncle Joe in the SSDI. I am trying to find additional information about him. Joseph Holicky Born: Feb 21, 1894 Died July 1, 1970 Last address: Oak Park, IL.
1. Always make note of the information you gather.
2. Ancestry dot com is a good source for primary data but the family trees that are available must be considered as questionable unless primary proof is attached.
3. Search the Internet for family members that have information that is not available on Ancestry.com and then attach the primary information to your tree so that others reseaarching the same family names.
4. Talk to all of your elderly relatives because they have information that may be accurate (unless there is a skeleton in the family closet) and you really need to interview them in person. There are lists, books and other media to give you questions to ask. After the question has been covered if your relative wants to continue to talk do not interupt them. You can get back to the list later.
5. If possible in this digital age get the interview on a CD and save the CD as a video to your family tree. This is irreplacable.
