Many years ago when I first started my research I was startled by some information that another geneaologist gave me. She informed my that my husband's father was my sixth cousin and my husband was my sixth cousin once removed.
Well I researched it and she was 100% right.
Back from the past and I was working on my current husband's family tree. The name Judge J. W. kept popping up. I was doing my research on ancestry dot com and so I downloaded the family tree to a gedcom file and put it into my Brother's Keeper software as a separate tree. Then I checked the individual to see if the same thing had happened. Yes it had. My MIL and FIL are cousins eight times removed. I don't dare tell he this. She is in her 90's and I do not think she would take it well.
They say that everyone descended from European stock is related somewhere in the last 50 generations. Sometimes it is much sooner than that.
